SOCIAL IMPLICATION OF GENDER ISSUES WITHIN CONTEMPORARY ACADEMIC POLICIES

Iulia ANGHEL1    << Back to contents

Gender subject represented a neglected theme on the
transitional agenda in most of the post-communist societies.
The presence of a conflictual memory regarding gender
communist policies and the resurrection of a traditionalist
transitional culture nourished a set of multiple cultural and
structural cleavages. The general status of women within
East European Academia was depreciating, contrary to
some apparently positive evolutions. The central paradox
of women`s condition in the field of Higher Education was
concerned with an apparent equilibration of gender gap in
the upper levels of academic pyramid while, at the bottom
of hierarchies, women became a subject of a double
marginalization mechanism. The study aims at investigating
the main sources of gender inequalities in the sphere of
academic formation, with a focus point on the social
implications of post-welfare state paradigm.

PRESS INFORMATION, FROM OBJECTIVITY TO MANIPULATION (II)

Maria FLOREA1    << Back to contents

Postmodern public looks for its identity in front of the
TV screen, and identity becomes common for the consumers
of the same audio-visual products. In this way, media has
the power to create social identity. The individual of our
days is the victim of stress, of an agglomerated and
tensioned life, so that what he looks for in TV shows is
relaxation, ease, leaving aside, for at least a few moments,
his daily problems. TV media takes full advantage of this
situation, offering to its audience the amusement it
requires. Unfortunately, hidden behind are the real
intentions of the ones who control and compel by means
of mass media: manipulation and false information.
Keywords: mass-media, public, manipulation, public poll,

ENTREPRENEURSHIP EDUCATION IN ROMANIA IN COMPARISON TO THE EUROPEAN UNION

Gabriela BOLDUREANU1    << Back to contents

Developing the entrepreneurial spirit in the young
generation is one of the priorities the European Commission
has set under the Lisbon Conference in 2000 concerning
the competitiveness and innovation in the knowledgebased
society. The current concerns of the Commission in
this field relate mainly the contribution of instruction in
schools and universities in the development of the
entrepreneurial capacity of young people.
The paper meets the European concerns in the field of
entrepreneurial education by investigating the role of
education in entrepreneurship in Romania in comparison
to the European Union. For this analysis we used the
“Flash Eurobarometer 354, Entrepreneurship in the EU and
beyond conducted in June - August 2012”.

THE IMPORTANCE OF CULTURAL MAGAZINES IN RECONSOLIDATING THE NATIONAL IDENTITY

Adrian Rosentzveig (Adi Cristi)    << Back to contents

In this article we intend to present the role that the
cultural magazines must have in the reinforcing process of
national identity. Cultural magazines are part of the
forming process of modern Romanian state. Thus, the
starting point was highlighted in 1840 by “Dacia Literară”
magazine. National identity is an actual term in the context
of globalization and its European Union but tends to be
almost replaced by the so-called multi - national identity.
National identity must be maintained even in conditions
of globalization and decrease of cultural borders, a process
that happens in the European Union today.

AN X-RAY OF UPE (AFRICAN FLUTE) IN AFRICAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

Felix OLAJIDE TALABI1, Benjamin KAYODE OGUNDEJI1, Solomon OKIOYA1    << Back to contents

Scholars in communication especially in mass
communication have their views reflected in Western
communication and see no serious business in discussing
African communication in African context as if Africans
had no means of communication before their contact with
the western world. Assumptions of such scholars are just
an attempt to cannibalise the effective traditional media
which Africans have explored over the ages to reach and
achieve their target within a specific culture. This paper
through personal interviews explores the African flute, its
uses, limitations and how it can be combined with other
media in traditional settings to achieve the maximum
effect. It however recommends, among other things, the
support of African governments (both at a local and
national level) to find experts on traditional media in order
to develop and advance the hardwares.

THE TRUTH ABOUT SANCHO PANZA BY F. KAFKA IN THE ASPECTS OF HUMANIZATION OF MYTH: PARTICIPATION OF F. KAFKA IN THE TRICKSTER TRADITION OF J. W. GOETHE AND TH. MANN

Jozefina CUŞNIR1    << Back to contents

The tradition established by European literature is
revealed within the framework of the author’s concept of
humanization of myth (applying its terms and concepts
such as the myth of laughter, the myth of non-totem-death’s
abolition, beneficent trickster, etc.). This tradition implies
using in a trickster manner the reminiscences of the Book
of Job and implementing in a laughter way the intention
offered by the mythologem of Job, i.e. abolishing non-totemdeath
by joint efforts of God and man. The tradition is
represented by such names as J. W. Goethe, F. Kafka and
Th. Mann. According to Goethe, the story of the torment
predetermined by God of a man known to be righteous
(Job) is replaced by the story of the salvation predetermined
by God of a man known as a sinner (Faust), who has sold
his soul to the devil. God Himself is a trickster. According
to Goethe, God actually verbalizes the postulate of the
powerlessness of evil. Kafka accentuates human actions.
Sancho makes a righteous choice when faced by evil-nontotem:
the protagonist is haunted by a demon who is
supposed to destroy him and initiate a lot of disasters
through him. However, Sancho, using the books of
chivalry, in a laughter manner frees himself, the Universe
and even the demon from the terrible predestination:
Sancho gives the demon a human name (Don Quixote),
tempts him by good and never abandons him.According
to Th. Mann, the aspect of cooperation between God and
man is verbalized in a trickster way.
Keywords: European tradition, humanization of myth,
mythologem of Job, myth of laughter, myth of non-totem-death’s
abolition.

UNDERSTANDING MAGIC: MAGICAL THINKING AND THE GENERATION GAP

Dora-Alexandra CANA1    << Back to contents

The article analyzes the possible connections one can
establish between understanding magic (the way
individuals view magic), magical thinking, generations
and other factors, such as anomia, stress reaction, wellbeing,
existential anxiety, locus of control, risk avoidance.
The here presented ideas are based on an extended study
on magical thinking, the data supporting the theoretical
model having been collected from 102 applied scales. We
start by describing the method, the scales used in the study
and the variables of interest. Once our method is clear, we
show a number of tables and the general results obtained.
The aim is to show significant correlations between magical
thinking and well-being, locus of control, anomia,
existential anxiety, stress reaction, sociabiliy. Moreover,
correlations of interest were made in two separate groups:
those who believe that magic is an alternative system, a
different manner of viewing the world, and those who see
magic as old, useless ideas - a hoax. This distinction allows
us to go even further: the first group is part of what
researchers called generation Y or the Millennials, while
the second group is part of generation X. We found an
interesting connection between understanding magic and
these two distinct generations.

INITIATION RITES AND PAGAN RELIGION IN THE 19TH CENTURY: THE CASE OF CAGLIOSTRO OF LES ILLUMINÉS DE NERVAL

Elena Mihaela ANDREI1    << Back to contents

Our analysis is dedicated to the portraits of the eccentric
enlightened Cagliostro. The hatching of the eccentric
illuminisme, as fanciful opinion, of this character cannot
abandon the historic period in which the visionaries
reproduce their ideas concerning the religion, aimed at the
Christianity and the Paganism. Nerval finds a good
opportunity to center himself on spiritual e(x)ccentricities
of the other one. This paper aims to show how Nerval, at
the same time fascinated and critical with regard to the
systems of his character, look himself through this one for
his own religious way with all the more fervor and concern
as he knows that he is not able to be connected with what
that dogma whether it is.

EDUCATIONAL DISCOURSE ANALYSIS

Marius Narcis MANOLIU1    << Back to contents

The academic teaching and learning involves the
transmission of information from the teacher, as a
transmitter,to the students, the recipients of the message,
and in this process training them, shaping their intellect.
When Jackbson described the function of language, starting
from the realities of the linguistic communication, he
introduced the concepts of destinator (the teacher in the
teaching activities), recipient /destinatar (the student),
message (the information/knowledge), all within a context
and using code . The understanding, the interpretation of
the information sent to students as recipients, its decoding,
involves explaining the meanings contained in the message,
which rests upon the destinator who, in his didactic
discourse, “translates”, explains, creates representations
leading to the understanding of concepts, to their
acquisition.

COMMUNICATION BETWEEN CHRISTIANS AND MUSLIMS – PAST, PRESENT AND PERSPECTIVES

Mihail ORZEAŢĂ1    << Back to contents

It seems that a multicultural world is threatened by the
evolution of the events from the Middle East.
Religion is more and more used as a powerful tool by
the politicians to impose their will against their followers
as well as against other communities belonging to different
religions.
Misinterpretation, misinformation and lack of trust
between Muslims and Christians have generated and still
cause violent and bloody clashes between communities
belonging to both faiths.
The biggest religious communities of the world –
Christians and Muslims – may fall into a mutual intolerance
if wisdom and restraint will not prevail as a necessary
ingredient for shaping their relations.
Keywords: multiculturalism, religion, intolerance,
Christians’ domination, Muslims’ frustration.

ASSERTIVE COMMUNICATION AND EFFICIENT MANAGEMENT IN THE OFFICE

Dumitru FILIPEANU¹, Mihaela CANANĂU²    << Back to contents

Communication has become a universal, all-embracing
concept as, nowadays, everything communicates. At
present, it goes without saying that all human activities are
based on and have their source in communication, people
becoming more and more aware of the fact that any modern
society, institution or company depends on and operates
by the various communication processes and networks
they develop, which grant their coherence. The situation
is the same for all types of human relations. Consequently,
one may observe that all communication and organizational
actions depend reciprocally on one another. In other
words, communication is the very substance of a society,
especially important being to control the manner in which
we, people, communicate. In relation with this, the present
study aims at analyzing the mode in which a better and
more efficient communication may be realized at
organizational level, in two directions, namely the
biunivocal superior - subaltern, and, respectively, the
mate–mate relation. Practically, the here discussed theme
involved the manner in which one perceives – at both
collective and personal level - the types and modalities of
communication, for assuring a more efficient activity at all
levels of the human society. The concrete objectives
considered in the present investigation were: evaluation of
the manner of perception of the main procedures by which
people communicate: passive-submissive, aggressive or
assertive; analysis of the impact produced upon the
efficiency of the three mentioned communication types at
the working place; why is assertive communication
considered as assuring a more fruitful collaboration, along
with the transmission and intereception of good ideas.

communication, aggressive communication, assertive

THE TRANSNISTRIAN CONFLICT SETTLEMENT: AN APPROACH THROUGH NEGOTIATIONS BASED ON INTEREST

Aurelian LAVRIC1    << Back to contents

The 5+2 format of negotiation regarding the dispute
over the Transnistrian zone of Republic of Moldova is a
good framework for the Moldovan delegation to achieve
the goal of reintegration of the country, in order to solve
the frozen conflict (since 1992). However, the Moldovan
negotiators faced yet a few major deficiencies. There is no
a clear picture of the nature of the conflict: is it internal – a
separatist one, or international – Russian-Moldovan
(taking into account that the Russian army and the
paramilitary forces of Cossacks where involved in 1992
war on Dniester river)? So, it was not clearly formulated
the main question that needs to be answered as a solution
to the conflict. Depending on the answer to this question
the negotiation format can be improved in order to adopt
a formula corresponding to the reality on the field: Russia
can be a guarantor, not a mediator – which would be totally
impartial. Another important aspect of the negotiation is
that the conflicting parties (Chisinau and Tiraspol) have
not identified yet common interests (and needs). Only in
such conditions can the Moldovan integral state be restored
and consolidated. In this context, it is understandable why
until now there are no plans (projects) to solve the conflict,
elaborated by Moldovan government servants; such
documents could be a base for discussions in 5+2 format.
It is important for the parties of the conflict to take into
account that mediators do not propose plans to solve the
conflict, because there is no such a function in their tasks,
so there are not such expectations their behalf. The
negotiation based on interests requires that the parties in
conflict should accept objective criteria (primarily, the
principles of international law), which could be a base for
developing a lasting solution to the conflict. A feature of a
negotiation based on interests is that parties should discuss
on the issue, so this helps to avoid tension between
negotiators, a confrontation of egos of representatives
round the table. A good team of negotiators work with a
few notions which are related among them. Especially in
a negotiation on a territorial dispute, like on Transnistrian
zone, it is important for the Governmental servants
(diplomats or experts) to formulate and propose a mission
of the common state – a project of the country, an idea of
the common state.Form the mission results a vision on the
development of the common state, based on the
implementation of the common interests. From the vision
there results a policy o reintegration. From the policy there results a strategy. From the strategy there results a tactic.
And from the tactic there results a settlement plan. Of
course, without each of these primary elements, a good
settlement plan can not be elaborated.

QUIXOTISM IN CONTEMPORARY PREFIGURATIVE POLITICS

Oana OLARIU1    << Back to contents

Contemporary social movements were repeatedly
criticized because of their decentralized organization and
their idealist objectives. The present study argues that
considering connective actions as inefficient is to confuse
them for collective actions, which are based on pragmatic
objectives. More than that, it will be argued that pragmatic
objectives within a social movement are conducing to
violence and are symptomatic for seeking fast solutions to
social problems, but not for profound social transformation.
In contrast, connective social movements, which are based
on horizontal communication and prefigurative politics,
are conducive to both individual and social change, as they
enhance self-expression and personal responsibility.
Keywords: Prefigurative politics, social change efficiency,
quixotism .
