AGRICULTURE AND ALIMENTATION FACING CONSUMERS’ CHOICE

Daniela MATEI1, Ioan Sebastian BRUMĂ1, Lucian TANASĂ2    << Back to contents

Abstract
Food Commerce has turned into one of the most
controversial economic battlefields in humankind history,
whilst the society of today is characterized by a single
existential criterion, manifested from top to bottom:
efficiency. Due to the distinctive features and functions of
agriculture, the economic theory has a subtle approach of
the efficiency concept in agriculture, compared to the other
non-agricultural economic branches.
There are two theoretical approaches on efficiency in
agricultural production: the first has a general meaning,
overlapping the hedonistic concept, while the second one
has a rather singular meaning that senses the efficiency of
agricultural production, related to the extent to which it
assures population’s food security. In other words,
agriculture, through what it produces, is effective when
able to provide the necessary food to its consumers, a food
that meets all essential criteria: quality, quantity and
diversity.
The paper aims at developing a thorough analysis of
the food offer produced by the agriculture and food
industry and also at investigating the way in which the
offer meets or does not meet consumers’ demand, seen as
increasingly concerned with the quality and origin of food.
Keywords: agriculture, alimentation, local product,
ecological product, consumer.

THE IMAGINARY AND THE CONSTRUCTION OF ”OBJECTIVE” REALITY AS A SPACE FOR RELATIONING AND COMMUNICATION

Dan Gabriel SÎMBOTIN    << Back to contents

The idea of reality, in relation with the construction of
the imaginary, is developed in the context of the gradual
development of a certain image upon the world. Evolution
of image occurs as part of an interhuman dynamic
communication developed at conscious level, for superficial
messages, and substantiated at unconscious level through
informational compressions, systematizations and
abstractions. As a result of such processes, an image which
comes to be defined as reality and equally as objective
condition gets crystallized.
Keywords: imaginary, reality, intercommunication,
psycho-sociology, collective unconscious.

THE DRAMATIC DISCOURSE

Marius Narcis MANOLIU    << Back to contents

Abstract
More than often in the teaching activity we wonder
how to better approach a new problem by building the
scaffolding of knowledge naturally, but especially
attractive and motivating for students. We think of
methods, techniques, strategies but these are, after all,
abstract concepts to which we must find the appropriate
coat to make the concept that we teach meaningful. The
coursebook does not always offer you the necessary
support to pass the new knowledge which you have had
in mind, and then you find in the literary text the help you
needed. The drarmatic examination of the text reveals a
feature, among many others of this type of text, that is, the
multitude of meanings that can be learned through
interpretation, acting out, accompanied by gestures,
movement, facial expressions, intonation, etc. The play
exists as text but its being written as text is for staging, for
interpretation.
Keywords: context, interaction, text, drama, dialogue,
communication.

„GENDER POLICY” IN SCIENCE? IMPLICATIONS OF THE PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION

Cornelia Margareta GĂŞPĂREL    << Back to contents

Abstract
Some ethical perspectives on research and academic
training are discussed, in terms of the ethical norms of the
European Union that, according to the argumentative
theory, would be convergent and similar to the criteria for
selection and promotion of science, grounded on reasons
of global politics (Manners, 2002), on gender, language, culture
and science. In this respect, the paper highlights and
criticizes some methodological aspects on academic
training and research analysis in terms of women’s
insertion in the labor market (Truong et al., 2014) and their
representation in highest academic forums. As such, the
brief review of the role and importance of women, and of
their degree of representation within the selections of what
Nobel awards bring as recognition and skills, consists in
an attempt of upgrading the ethical principles and of the
philosophy of education, in general. On the other hand,
the lack of representation and promotion of women in
fields within the Nobel Prizes (Musskii, 2008) reveals a
number of social and political implications of science on
gender criteria, especially in terms of training and research
excellence. Briefly, the paper addresses a few hypotheses:
1. If the ethical rules of the EU and their correlation
with what it should be called gender politics of science
resolved the real problems of women’s representation in
research excellence – which are the critiques, arguments
and reasons that could rule the present situation – solutions
and steps?
2. Does the analysis on research policy and on
representing women within Romanian academia illustrate
the present situation? The ethical implications and
solutions as forms of response to the academic and research
crisis that would really solve the problems on gender
policies are also discussed.
Keywords: ethics, ethical norms and values, gender
equality, research, academic policies.

THE ITALIAN OPERA CREATION IN THE 19TH CENTURY, MEANS OF CULTURAL EDUCATION AND COMMUNICATION

Doina DIMITRIU URSACHE    << Back to contents

Abstract
We intend a short historical and stylistic insight in the
Italian art in general, emphasizing some significant aspects
of the opera creation: the theme, the structure of the opera
in comparison to some previous and contemporary styles,
general aspects of vocality and the voice-orchestra
coordination. Approaching vocality from a technical and
expressive-interpretative perspective, due to the roles of
the characters, actions or music represents a sensitive,
direct and emotional way of communicating and nurturing.
Keywords: Italian opera, interpretative style, libretto,
character.

THE CODING AND DECODING OF THE SIGN AT THOMAS A. SEBEOK

Paul GORBAN    << Back to contents

Abstract
If we look, even from far away, at the development of
the means of communication or at the interests of the
scientist we notice that together with the philosophers,
sociologists, political scientists, linguists and psychologists,
the 21st century individual develops within the local or
global cultures under the dictatorship of the image,
rendered as a symbolic form. Semiotics is considered a
field of study which possesses, within its field of
investigation the language (languages) and the practice of
signification / communication as social practices.
Throughout the years, this field of study has received
many definitions which have tried to explain its epistemic
horizons. Most of the attempts to define the field of
semiotics belong to language philosophy, logic and
linguistic. However, the expert in semiotics Thomas A.
Sebeok tells us that semiotics is rooted in medicine and that
Hippocrates (460-377 B. C.), regarded as the founder of the
Western medical science, was one of first people who used
the sign science to study the patients’ symptoms. We
should acknowledge the fact that in the history of the
subjects that analyse the production of signs and the
relations among them, there are some theorists who have
identified semiology as part of a whole, semiotics, an idea
especially spread by John Deely, but disputed by Georges
Mounim.Therefore, medical diagnosis represents a
semiotic science since it relies on the principle that the
physical symptom doesn’t represent itself, but a state or
internal condition. However, later research in the field
separate the concept of symptom from that of sign, bringing
the latter closer to semiotics. This is how the encoding and
decoding device is formed…
Keywords: communication, sign, symbol, semiotics,
semiosis, message, codification, decoding, hermeneutic, icon.

THE WORLD OF HAVES AND HAVE NOTS: THE BIRTH OF A VIOLENT CONSUMER SOCIETY IN THE AGE OF NEW MEDIA

Cansu ARISOY    << Back to contents

Abstract
Today, actors are both discussing and experiencing the
effects of globalization and globalized consumer culture is
one of the much debated issues. This is a time of objects in
which individuals live according to the rhythm of what
they possess. Consumption and popular culture are
products of social development of modernism. New media
as a phenomenon of the post-modern era transformed the
way in which people communicate with each other. The
main aim of this article is to reveal the role of new media
in the evolution of violence in consumer society by
understating the relationship between these two concepts
which are strengthened by popular culture. Uncovering
this relationship is important because, today the impact of
war scenes is not much more powerful than ordinary
boxing matches. People, who die every day, became all
humdrum images. Regarding this aim, first, consumerism
is explained by the use of various theoretical approaches.
Following this, the relationship between violence and
consumption is revealed. Consequently an answer is given
to the following question: do new media encourage a
culture of violence in a consumer society?
Keywords: Consumption, Globalization, New Media,
Sexuality, Violence.

THE SPACE OF INTIMATE COMMUNICATION IN MIHAIL SEBASTIAN’S “THE JOURNAL”

Simona STANCU    << Back to contents

Abstract
Mihail Sebastian’s literature is, on the whole, both a
confessions and a personal history of a tormented spirit,
influenced by the contemporary society and by his own
fears. Some hidden confessions behind the mask, the selfuttering,
an alternative imaginary existence of the writer,
facilitated by his fictional creation, are some of the
characteristics of the relationship established between the
creator and the imaginary of his literary creation which has
to be taken into account when analysing his entire work.
Keywords: communication, description, journal, space.

BETRAYALS IN THE NATION UNION WAR

Constantin FĂTU1, Mihaela MOSCU2    << Back to contents

Abstract
Romania’s history includes some painful episodes in
which the leader’s actions directed at upholding the loyalty
vows made to the country’s earth and to their alliances
have been undermined. There was such an event in World
War I, in which officers of the Romanian army were
involved. We refer to the betrayals of colonel Alexandru
D. Sturdza and that of lieutenant-colonel Crainiceanu, both
important officers in the Romanian army and coming from
well-known families. Their actions were met with suspicion
by the German officers and their betrayal was harshly
approbated, both by the Romanian officers and by the
rehabilitated military bodies, which sentenced colonel
Sturdza to death in contumacious, military degradation
and confiscation, whereas lieutenant-colonel Crainiceanu
was executed by firing squad. Punishing this act of high
treason represents just one of the many expressions of
honor displayed by the Romanian army and its leaders
throughout the years.
Keywords: World War, army, betrayal.

CHINESE PICTURE, A PO(I)ETICS OF SYMBOLIC SIGNIFICANCES

Elena PRUS1, Cezar SECRIERU2    << Back to contents

Abstract
Chinese picture represents a relatively unitary aesthetic
system, its most distinct feature being its attempt at
”painting ideas”. If the European picture starts with the
reproduction of nature and depicts reality, Chinese picture
has focused, since its early beginnings, on a subjective
re-creation of images, as it does not offer to its onlookers
images of the surrounding reality, of the real universe,
instead it suggests, leaves room to imagination, imparting
to some special elements (water and numerous, numerous
flowers and animals, etc.) a symbolic image of thoughtful
meanings.
Chinese picture fascinates by its distinct style, differing
from the European one in its technique, principles and
composition. A peculiarity of European picture is the
reality of its representation, its anatomism, perspectivism,
and tendency towards a sculptural relief. The Chinese
artist wilfully ignores the laws of linear perspective,
applying the principle of the mobile center, according to
which the eye is free to wander about, which intensifies
the feeling of unknown vastness, and suggests the
immeasurable dao.
Specialized criticism established the basic principle of
all Oriental artistic exegeses, namely of involving a certain
artistic subordination to an active spiritual objective.
Oriental cultures require from art, on one side, a thorough
knowledge of reality and, on the other, the capacity of
transposing the image within a more profound, symbolic
thinking level, capable of expressing the axiological
perspective inherent to art.
Keywords: Chines picture, pictorial poetry, picture of ideas,
symbolic meaning, poetics.

VICENZO BELLINI’S OPERA CREATION, A MEANS OF CULTURAL COMMUNICATION

Cristina SIMIONESCU    << Back to contents

Abstract
At the crossroads “of a still aristocratic art and the
genuine issue of romanticism, Bellini achieved by his
creation the perfect union between classical beauty and the
exaltation theme of hero or rather more frequently of the
heroine, condemned by fate”( Dicţionar de mari muzicieni,
2006). La Sonnambula is one of the most important works
that promoted Bellini’s popularity, particularly through
the gentle and sweet vaudeville flavour, linked to the
pathetic chant combined with high colourful voice of great
interpretative value. The last Bellinian opera creation was
born after the disintegration of the fruitful partnership
with the librettist Felice Romani. After leaving Italy to
settle in Paris, Bellini has signed a commitment with the
Théâtre Italien (in 1834) for a new opera, I Puritani. We
will highlight how through the libretto, the action, the
characters, the music, the opera represents a way to educate
and to enlighten the yesterday, today and tomorrow
public.
Keywords: opera, Vincenzo Bellini, libretto, characters,
soprano.
