A QOS ANALYSIS OF UGS AND ERTPS SCHEDULING SERVICE FLOWS IN VIDEO CONFERENCE OVER WORLDWIDE INTEROPERABILITY FOR MICROWAVE ACCESS (WI-MAX)

Abstract
The IEEE 802.16e (published 2005) defined five different
Quality of Service (QoS) classes including UGS, ertPS, rtPS,
nrtPS and BE. It is well known that UGS and ertPS are
designated to support QoS for voice applications with
silence suppression. The other three classes have different
applications. In this paper, we investigate the performance
of UGS and ertPS QoS classes in terms of multimedia
applications such as video conferencing over WiMAX
network scenarios. The OPNET modeler 14.5 simulator is
employed for simulation purposes in order to evaluate the
performance of UGS and ertPS with a focus on video
conferencing streaming and voice applications. The
simulations show that the user with UGS QoS could
provide higher throughput and lower delay, lower jitter,
and lower queuing delay compared to the ertPS case.
Consequently, we also evaluated the video conferencing/
streaming application for the ertPS QoS case. Simulation
results in this case show that for a defined two scenarios
of network and a certain combination of users that are
allocated a QoS and a selected application e.g., voice or
video conferencing, UGS offers higher performance than
ertPS.
Keywords: QoS, UGS, ertPS, throughput, delay, jitter,
queuing delay.

PLEADING AGAINST EXCESS OF INTERNET UTILIZATION IN CHILDREN AND YOUNG ONES

Ionel PINTILII1    << Back to contents

Abstract
The paper aims at making aware first parents, then
children and adolescents, on the fact that the Internet used
in excess is toxic, harmful, that it can produce profound
behavioral changes, while exposing to numerous,
unpredictable risks. In this context, the paper briefly
presents some consequences of the cases of neglecting the
risks of networking with unknown friends, within the
virtual word. It is shown that the dependence of internet
and social networks replaced reading books recommended
by school curricula, producing complications, relational
errors, thus contributing to increasing subculture and
noneducation among the users. All educational factors and
all media should be involved in supporting an
environmental education of parents and children, in order
to reduce online risks.
Keywords: social networks, online environment, behavior,
networking, addiction, risks, inappropriate content.

BURNOUT SYNDROME AMONG NURSING STUDENTS

Magdalena IORGA1, Diana MURARU2, Tudor CIUHODARU3    << Back to contents

Abstract
Aim: To identify the level of burnout among freshman
nursing students. Materials and methods: a number of 89
students enrolled in the first year of medical school took part
in the research. The Maslach Burnout Inventory was used in
order to identify the level of burnout, The Job Satisfaction
Scale to assess satisfaction with the job (especially for those
who work as nurses) and alexithymia was measured with
the Toronto Alexithymia Scale. Variables like age, environment,
work experience or academic results were considered.
Collected data were analyzed with SPSS 19.0. Results and
disscusion: A number of 89 students (91% women and 9%
men) were included in the research. High levels of emotional
exhaustion were identified in 15.7 % of the students, while
13.5% had high scores on depersonalization. Age and
nursing experience are negatively correlated with personal
achievement. A positive correlation was identified between
emotional exhaustion and total score for alexithymia and a
negative correlation between this subscale and all subscales
for job satisfaction. There are statistically significant
differences between participants with nursing experience
and those without nursing experience in personal
achievement: t (71) = 3.907, p < .001. Conclusion: results are
important for nursing students and for academic curricula.
Data prove that emotional exhaustion has a great negative
impact on job satisfaction. Practical experience and age
contribute to a low level of emotional exhaustion. Personal
achievement seems to be higher in the case of nurses without
professional experience.
Keywords: nursing student, burnout, job satisfaction,
alexithymia.

TECHNOLOGY MEDIATED MEDIA EDUCATION: A CASE STUDY OF E-LEARNING INITIATIVES IN INDIA

Manoj DEORI1    << Back to contents

Abstract
With several new innovations in Information and
Communication Technology and the increasing interaction
of the users with the all-pervasive digital world, the need
for a change from conventional textbook learning to
multimedia e-learning has increased tremendously.
Powerful simulation and web-based experimental
opportunities need to be explored to enable learners to
acquire new knowledge and skills. This paper aims to
explore the advantages of e-learning pedagogy over
conventional teaching methods. At the same time, the
paper also aims to describe the state-of-art technology used
for media education through e-learning in India.
Keywords: E-learning, virtual classroom, blended learning,
multimedia in education, e-simulation, media education.

SVETLANA ALEKSIEVICI: JOURNALISM METAMORPHOSED IN LITERATURE

Elena PRUS1,2    << Back to contents

Abstract
Svetlana Aleksievici, the 2015 literature Nobel Prize
winner, goes through an original formation from journalism
to non-fictional literature, attracting numerous discussions
on the topic and method of her writings. The books of this
author have a well-defined subject, approached by
numerous respondents, who have different viewpoints
regarding the communist and post-communist history of
the Russian/soviet and post-soviet space. Beyond the
panoramic events and mentality of the era, the explanations
of those interviewed offer a synthesis which is presented
from a number of perspectives, especially emphasizing the
ideal for freedom and the diagnosis for hopes and lack of
fulfilments. The new perspective of Svetlana Aleksievici’s
works is that of a journalism included in a literary model,
explained and applied in her fascinating, profound and
topical books.
Keywords: Svetlana Aleksievici, literature Noble Prize
winner, journalism, non-fictional literature, Second-hand Times.

GLOBAL SOCIAL INEQUALITIES. A TRANSNATIONAL ANALYSIS: THE REPUBLIC OF MOLDOVA

Tatiana SPĂTARU1    << Back to contents

Abstract
The study offers a transversal analysis on global social
inequalities. The gaps within the development level of
several indices of the Republic of Moldova in comparison
with other countries of the region and of the world are
identified. Addressing the issue of inequality from the
perspective of transnational analysis is determined by the
escalation of inequality under all its manifestations.
Inequality has become a real risk, endangering personal,
national and international security, triggering social
reactions that take various forms of protest.
Keywords: global inequality, social inequality, transversal
analysis, human development, social stratification, hierarchy of
social inequality.

TRANSLATING ETHNIC IMAGES AS AN EDITORIAL POLICY OF INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATION

Andi SÂSÂIAC1    << Back to contents

Abstract
The global context in which we live brings different
countries and cultures in closer and closer contact, a fact
which, paradoxically for some, has increased the
individuals’ self-awareness in what concerns aspects such
as nation or ethnicity. This evolution has led to something
which, for a long time, seemed rather unusual: the
translation of travel books dealing with less known
countries into the language of those countries, with the
purpose of showing the target readers how they had been
regarded by the foreign authors. The situation has
determined me to expect many more travel books to be
translated into the language of those travelled to; moreover,
during my doctoral research, I expressed my expectation
that such translation projects become editorial policies of
different publishing houses. I have also advocated the
translation strategy of ‘further-foreignization’ so as to
confront the readers with the foreign author’s precise
viewpoint and, thus, establish a knowledgeable position
within the intercultural dialogue. I believe that this is
precisely the case of the recent translations released by the
‘Humanitas’ Romanian publishing house.
Keywords: intercultural communication, imagology,
translation studies.

THE NOTHING – A MULTIDISCIPLINARY APPROACH

Magda JIANU1,2    << Back to contents

Abstract
I have chosen a multidisciplinary approach, due to the
meaning of the term itself, multidisciplinary referring to the
study of an issue by a number of subjects at the same time.
We admit that we wanted to use a transdisciplinary, which
would have implied the analysis and assessment of an
issue among various subjects and taking a little bit of
something from each one. We thought that our purpose
was not to confirm or infirm a concept from the mosaics of
demonstrations, but simply to present it in its entire
complexity, in order to highlight what we can retain or
whether or not we can retain something new for linguistics.
Keywords: nothing, multidiscipliplinary approach,
linguistic point of view.
