THE NEW GLOBAL ECONOMY BETWEEN A WELL-PLANNED JOURNEY AND A CHAOTIC ONE. UNDER THE IMPACT OF BOTH CLIMATE CHANGE AND THE POST PANDEMIC, THE NGE: A MORE COMPLEX AND LESS PREDICTABLE SYSTEM

Petre ROMAN1    << Back to contents

Abstract
Mastering complexity is the next big challenge for
science. Understanding and managing complexity is of
critical importance if we are to find ways of solving
environmental challenges such as global warming, and if
we are to build societies that do not destroy themselves
through conflict and war. Eliminating the carbon gas
emissions inevitably implies higher energy costs and slower
growth. There is no miraculous economic boom. Behind the
shortages (energy, transport, semiconductors) there are
deeper forces which can stay even for a long-term period.
Green alternatives are not solving the problem of shortages.
On the contrary. That shows, among many other things, the
new complexity of the global economy. The New Global
Economy is not about a bright future. It is about selecting a
positive rule among many possible rules, a rule that indicates
a positive behaviour of the global economy. Green should
transform itself from truism into beating reality. The present
available resources are, in general economic terms, more
valuable than future resources. Having resources now
means that we can or should expand our opportunities. This
is simple economics, yet quite complex at the level of the
global economy. The present command of resources is one
of the most sensitive issues on the global stage. What stays
unchanged when the economy is subjected to symmetrical
transformation, i.e. transformations which do not alter the
whole validity of the system? The obvious answer is:
cooperation, interconnectivity and trade. We speak a lot
about transitions in the global economy. Therefore, we are
compelled to speak about some critical points and order
parameters. Global economy should also be based on
continuously expanding and charging towards the frontier
of innovation. Governments and businesses working hand
in hand make the economies more innovative. Global
cooperation, if it is to become a reality, is about shared
convictions. Indeed, we have no option but to act in the
presence of uncertainty and often that means that a better
situation could be simply an unattainable one. And we
should, much more than now, resort to diplomacy as a
global tool to cope with global uncertainties.

THE REPUBLIC OF MOLDOVA IN THE CONTEXT OF TRANSITIONING TO THE NEW WORLD ORDER: RISKS AND THREATS

Aurelian LAVRIC1    << Back to contents

Abstract
In the present times, a process of transition takes place
from the unipolar world order, with the US hegemony, to
the multipolar one, with China and Russia as emerging
world powers. There is also an increased Turkish activity,
which promotes a policy of pan-Turkism in Azerbaijan and
in the Central Asian republics, but also a policy of pan-
Islamism in the Arab states (especially in North Africa – for
example in Libya). The tensions between the West (NATO
and the EU) and the Russian Federation in the Eastern
European region have a negative impact on the national
security of the Republic of Moldova, which must find the
optimal formula for ensuring its security.

MEDIA CLASHES IN THE EX-SOVIET GEOPOLITICAL SPACE OF THE BLACK SEA BASIN

Mihai LESCU1    << Back to contents

Abstract
The collapse of the Soviet Empire and the dizzying
development of new communication technologies led to
the geopolitical reconfiguration of the world and paved the
way for the former Soviet republics to become democratic
and collaborate with European countries. As NATO and
the EU advance towards its borders, Russia uses both
military and ideological propaganda to keep former
territories under its influence. Russia also leads a fierce
battle in order to strengthen its position in the Black Sea
region, where geographically Ukraine, the Republic of
Moldova and Georgia are located. The article highlights
the strategies, tactics and techniques applied by the Russian
media in order to achieve various geopolitical goals.

PEACE JOURNALISM OR WAR JOURNALISM? AN ANALYSIS OF NEWSPAPER COVERAGE OF ETHNO-RELIGIOUS CONFLICTS IN SOUTHERN KADUNA, NIGERIA (2020-2021)

Jesse ISHAKU1    << Back to contents

Abstract
This research examines how the Nation, Punch, Vanguard
and Daily Trust newspapers reported Southern Kaduna
conflicts in terms of frequency, direction, placement and
level of sensationalism between September 2020 and March
2021. The media which are powerful tools of communication
can aid in promoting peace, unity and development, as well
as creating conflict along ethnic, religious and political
inclinations. The study which was anchored on social
responsibility and agenda setting theories used both content
analysis and critical discourse analysis in order to code and
interpret the data collected. A total of two hundred and
twenty-four (224) editions of the newspapers under review
were selected using the stratified random sampling
technique by days of the week. Out of the sample, only 203
editions were accessed, coded and content analysed. The
research reveals, among other things, that the reports on
Southern Kaduna conflicts were mostly straightforward
news constituting 92% which lack sufficient context and
background. The reports were also given less prominence
as almost all the reports were buried or hidden in the inside
pages. Also, most of the reports on Southern Kaduna
conflicts were inflammatory and sensational in order to
keep the audience glued to the newspapers at the expense
of accuracy and professionalism. The study therefore
suggests that, media organisations should organise extensive
training on conflict-sensitive reporting so as to arm reporters
with professional requisite knowledge of reporting conflicts such that the reports don’t trigger more conflicts. Also,
media organisations should not report conflicts in straight
news format only instead; they should use editorials and
features which are usually in-depth and analytical with
sufficient context and background needed for conflictsensitive
journalism. And, the media should also give
prominence and priority to conflict incidences in order to
attract the desired government intervention which will
bring about lasting solutions.
Keywords: Ethno-religious conflict, peace journalism,
conflict sensitive reporting, Southern Kaduna.

TRANSDISCIPLINARY COMMUNICATION IN WORKING GROUPS

Mihail ORZEAŢĂ1    << Back to contents

Abstract
Contemporary society is going through an extensive
process of transformation, generated by a multitude of
orientations, trends, theories and concepts in all fields of
activity, a process marked by increasing divergences between
science, technology and culture. Some authors perceive this
situation as a transformation of humanity into an authentic
Tower of Babel, which might trigger the end of civilisation.
Transdisciplinarity is a concept which can build the necessary
bridges between science, technology and culture, helping us
understand that all fields of spiritual and material activity
represent the components of an integrated knowledge
process. Within this process, transdisciplinary communication
represents the indispensable link for reconciling effectiveness
with affectivity and eliminating destructive tensions between
the material and the spiritual world. This article aims
to synthesize the relevant conclusions, the results from the
literature review on transdisciplinary communication and to
contribute to a better understanding of its role in the forming
and functioning of working groups, whose main objective is
scientific research.
Keywords: transdisciplinary communication, integrated
knowledge, transdisciplinary working group, transdisciplinary
integration, transdisciplinarity .

EMERGENCY REMOTE TEACHING DURING THE COVID-19 LOCKDOWN: A FOCUS ON ENUGU SCHOOL, ON THE RADIO PROGRAMME OF THE FEDERAL RADIO CORPORATION OF NIGERIA (FRCN)

Abstract
Global digitization of learning mitigates the education
loss caused by school-closures during the COVID-19
lockdown globally, but few studies examine the awareness
and participation level of the target audience, as well as
factors that influence their participation and engagement
level to address such concerns. To fill this gap, we adopted
a mixed method approach on “Enugu School on Radio
Program of FRCN” using 184 senior secondary school
students from public schools and 192 senior secondary
school students in private schools. We found that students
in both schools are highly aware of Enugu School on
Radio (71% and 78%) respectively. Despite this high level
of awareness, only 13.9% of participants in public schools
and 20.7% of participants in private school participated
actively in terms of submitting their assignments to
teachers for evaluation. This study also reveals that there
are varying factors to these effects: ranging from a lack
of trust on the part of the students (15%, 14%) to a lack of
access to internet/digital devices especially for
participants in public schools (34%), as opposed to (21%)
for those in private schools. The study also exposed that
lack of parental support especially for students in private
school (39%) and 33% for public schools hindered the
participants from participating actively. The students in
public schools who didn’t participate because they
normally forget it is at (12%), while in private school it is
at (11%). We argue that helping students to have access
to the internet/digital devices as well as maximum parental support with sufficient campaign on perceived
benefits of remote/online learning from media
practitioners will burst students trusts/ participation in
remote/online learning.
