NOVELTY AND PERSPECTIVES ON THE IMPACT OF THE TOURISM INDUSTRY IN THE TOURISM EDUCATION CURRICULUM

Alexandra Gabriela BURLACU1    << Back to contents

Abstract
The skills required by the industry can be significantly
different from those learned in tourism education, which
is why assessing the needs of the industry and including
it in the curriculum is important. In this work, an analysis
of the specialized literature was made from the perspective
of the evaluation of the curriculum, the development of
innovative study programs, curriculum design and also
the limits and trends of curriculum modernization to the
current requirements related to the tourism industry were
identified. Thus, the modernisation of the tourism
curriculum is essential to adapt to the demands of the
labour market and to provide young graduates with
current and relevant skills and knowledge in order to be
competitive on the market. Integrating technology and
business games into teaching various subjects in tourism
can improve learning and prepare students for the
challenges of the tourism industry.
Keywords: skills, curriculum, tourism education, tourism

COMMUNICATION IN MEDIATION IN TELEVISION JOURNALISM

Georgeta STEPANOV1    << Back to contents

Abstract
The research of journalistic mediation as a model of
public communication, which also includes the televised
activity of mediation, represents a challenge in itself,
determined by the low interest of researchers in this subject
and, respectively, by the very small number of studies
which approach it. The works currently existing in the
international scientific circuit treat journalistic publishing
as a mission deriving from the social function of the media,
and the TV shows oriented towards mediation – as ordinary
talk shows. This approach, tangential and unilateral, did
not allow the multidimensional investigation of the subject,
which imposed the identification of a new research
perspective, in order for the journalistic remedy, including
the televised one, to be examined first of all mediacommunication
functions, as an autonomous journalistic
activity. Thus, the purpose of the research carried out
within this study lies in the conceptualization of mediation
communication in television journalism and in the
projection of its identity profile in the contemporary media
context. In order to achieve this desideratum, the
investigative effort was oriented towards exploiting the
essence of the journalistic mediation activity in general and
of the communication in mediation in television journalism
in particular, as well as their specificity by describing the
main insignia, characteristics, missions, etc. The case study
was conducted on the basis of the shows Vorbeste Moldova
and Vremea pravdâ, from Prime TV channel.
Keywords: journalistic mediation, mediation in
communication, television journalism, TV channel, show, talk
show, conflict situations, function, mission, social dialogue.

INADEQUATE DIPLOMATIC COMMUNICATION AND ITS EFFECTS ON PEOPLE AND COMMUNITIES

Mihail ORZEAŢĂ1    << Back to contents

Abstract
The domestic and international crises of recent times
seem to have stimulated some leading political actors to use
personal attack and launch “warning arrows” at their
counterparts in the nations with which they are in conflict
and beyond. The undiplomatic or even bellicose attitudes of
some leaders and diplomats were and are usually caused
by an exacerbated ego, by the desire for notoriety and also
by their moral and professional strongness. Tensions and
even international conflicts were and will continue to be
provoked by decisions taken under the influence of
emotions, by leaders insufficiently trained in the art of
leadership and diplomacy. An inadequate language and the
undiplomatic behaviour of community leaders generated
and can continue to generate states of tension that can
evolve into political, diplomatic, economic, financial and
other sanctions, or even to armed confrontations.
Keywords: undiplomatic communication, undiplomatic
language, insults, threats, pressures, power relations.

DEVELOPMENT COMMUNICATION, DIGITAL MEDIA AND DEMOCRACY IN NIGERIA

Veronica BASSEY-DUKE1, Njah Bassey ETTA1    << Back to contents

Abstract
This article appraises the role of digital media as a tool
for fostering participatory development communication
and democracy in Nigeria. Adopting the qualitative
literature reviewing approach, with the Diffusion of
Innovations theory as the theoretical foundation, the
article explores the meaning and types of digital media,
thereby dismissing the existing misunderstanding
between digital media and social media. Furthermore, the
paper presents a critical inference on how digital media
and development communication can be effectively
synergized to bring about the desired dividends of
democratic practice in Nigeria. Drawing from the
foregoing, the paper recommends that the effective
deployment of digital media platforms to democratic
governance and most precisely, to our electoral process
can help bridge the gap and serve to strengthen the
cherished principles of transparency and accountability
in Nigeria’s governance process.
Keywords: Development Communication, Digital Media,
Democracy, Nigeria.

ACCESS TO INFORMATION VS INFORMATION SECURITY IN THE HYBRID WAR (THE CASE OF SUSPENDING THE ACTIVITY OF SIX TV CHANNELS IN THE REPUBLIC OF MOLDOVA)

Andrei Dumbrăveanu1    << Back to contents

Abstract
On December 16, 2022, the Commission for Emergency
Situations of the Republic of Moldova (CESRM) suspended
on the period of the state of emergency the broadcasting
license for the following TV channels: First in Moldova and
Accent TV – both belong to the service provider
“TELESISTEM TV” LLC; Orhei TV and TV6 – “MEDIA
RESURSE” LLC; RTR Moldova – “TV - Communications
Group” LTD; NTV Moldova – PP “Exclusive Media” LTD.
CESRM took an unprecedented decision in the short
history of the free and independent media in Moldova, a
state for which democratic values are not only declared
priorities. In a single decision, six sources of information
to the population were suspended. Immediate reactions
followed in the political environment, but also in the public
space. In the hybrid war triggered by Russia on the territory
of the Republic of Moldova, the informational, media
component holds an important segment, where the forces
are focused on the direction of the psychological processing
of the population, where certain media contingents are also
mobilized. In such circumstances, CESRM has taken
preventive actions to protect the information environment,
in order to ensure stability and tranquillity in society.
Keywords: information security, hybrid war, Republic of

SPECTRAL AESTHETICS AND THE CONSTRUCTION OF REALITY IN NOLLYWOOD VIDEO FILMS

Emmanuel Nyong INYANG1, Essien Oku ESSIEN1, Igwe O. EWONA2    << Back to contents

Abstract
Spectral aesthetics is concerned with the use camera
and editing techniques as well as the specialized
vocabularies of film productions to create meaning and to
arouse the feelings of the audience. These techniques and
vocabularies include but are not limited to signs, codes and
conventions, camera distance and angles, lighting, sound,
graphics and editing. The authors conducted a semiotic
analysis on select Nollywood films to see how the elements
employed are related to what comes before and after them
as in the steps of a plot –syntagmatic relationships and the
enduring principles and rules that organise the films –
paradigmatic relationships. The key signifiers in each of
the select video films were discussed in relation to the
signified (what they stand for). The formal arrangement of
the thoughts, ideas and emotions of the filmmakers, and
how they are able to create latent meaning using certain
signifiers of meaning were also revealed.
Keywords: media productions, spectral aesthetics,
Nollywood films.
